This series consists of files relating to senior position and other teachers, departmental officers, and other department-controlled officers. The files contain correspondence, employment cards, service histories, contracts and ceased employment notices as well as various certificates, qualifications, application forms, personal statements and teacher movement advice with other personal details.
The files were selected on the basis of the senior position held by an employee, (eg. Inspector, Principal, Deputy Principal or Head Teacher, Director etc.) or, with some exceptions, because of an employee's long service within the department. Although the majority of files relate to the teaching profession, a number of files also exist for non-teaching including departmental and other personnel: for example, personnel files from the State Library which was controlled by the Public Instruction Department from 1945 and subsequently by the Education Department from 1957 until 1977; these files are for State and Deputy State Librarians.
Although separate personnel Leave Files were often created by the department, leave documentation was also sometimes combined with appointment records. Separate leave files have only been retained when appointment documentation is missing.
