Caningera (Creek) Provisional School No 423 opened on 18 February 1884 and closed in 1893 as Caningera Provisional School. It was also called Canungra Creek Provisional School in 1885 and 1887.
Canungera Lower Provisional School No 836 reopened on 20 September 1898.
It became Canungera Lower State School in January 1909. In 1915 it was renamed Wangalpong State School and again in 1928 Wonglepong State School. It closed on 13 September 1935.
