Description
Ipswich North State School No.61opened in 1867 with separate rooms for boys and girls. The initial enrolment of pupils was 86 boys and 56 girls. The first Head teacher was Mr Samuel Ewing with his wife Sarah and Miss Mary Ransome as assistant teachers. The school became two separate schools, the North Ipswich Boys School No. 61, and North Ipswich Girls and Infants School No. 246 in 1876.

North Ipswich Girls and Infants School No. 246 closed at the end of 1934, and from 1935 re-combined with the Boys School to become once again the Ipswich North State School.
