Description
Townsville State Boys School No. 113 was established as a result of the separation of boys and girls attending the Townsville State School.* The boys "department" retained the number of the original school whilst the girls "department" became No. 257. The two schools had separate teachers and principals.

From the 1880s, the school became known as Townsville Central State Boys School - probably to avoid confusion with other schools being established in the Townsville area.

As of 30 June 1936, the Central State Boys and the Central State Girls and Infants schools were re-amalgamated to form the Townsville Central State School. The new school took over the number of the former Boys School.

*Although the opening date of the new Girls "department" is not noted in the Public Instruction Department's Annual Reports for 1874 or 1875, the school admission registers note that the girls were transferred on 28th September 1874.
