Description
Torrens Creek is one of the principal railway stations between Charters Towers and Hughenden and the residents were nearly all directly or indirectly connected with the carrying trade.

A public meeting was held 28 May 1890 at Torrens Creek for the establishment of a provisional school. A site of 10 acres was given and gazetted as school reserve. Approval was given for a new school building and Torrens Creek Provisional School Number 627 was opened 19 February 1891, by the first principal Edward Joseph Cavanagh, with an initial enrolment of 29 pupils.

In 1912 Torrens Creek Provisional School became a State School. In 1988 the school had 13 pupils enrolled with one [1] teacher. Due to the continued decline of enrolments the School was closed at the end of the 1991 school year.
