Information Sources

This series consists of Civil Service, subsequently Public Service staff files. These files contain correspondence and papers relating to the employment history of public service officers from initial job applications to resignations or retirements, and include personal and employment details such as leave requests, promotions, and salaries. Papers include departmental forms containing information required for applications as well as documentation of war service etc; birth and medical certificates; gazettal notices of appointments; and newspaper clippings including obituaries.

Those files which have been retained meet certain criteria: for example, files on officers who have achieved positions of authority in the service, or who have made important contributions to the community; or where the appointments have been historically significant.
