These registers are day and night reports regarding the patients in the female wards of the Ipswich Special Hospital, daily signed by the Assistant Day Matron, the Assistant Night Matron and the Head Matron. The reports cover all female wards (initially wards 1 and 2 and later 3 and 4 as well, plus the male and female hospital wards).
The reports include daily statistics for each ward on the following: number of patients, fits, wet and dirty, soiled clothes, spoon-fed, dressed in strong clothing, bathings, under medical treatment, employment (such as assisting in wards, needle work, domestic offices, kitchen, laundry), unemployed, entertainment (such as recreation and sports grounds, religious services and extended walks).
The next section contains general information: number of patients on leave, total number of patients on books, deaths (name, hour, ward, in the presence of), transferred, discharged, leaves of absence.
The last section is a Special Report: fits, feeding, destructive patients, special observations, homicidal or suicidal attempts, seclusions, restraints, escapes, restlessness, special medical treatments, patients confined to bed in specific wards, inspections of cleanliness of patients and of wards, isolation ward, report concerning buildings.
Note: These books differ from the Day and Night Reports - Female (SRS5844) in that the latter are 'ward by ward' reports.
