Description

These registers are Day and Night Reports regarding patients in the male wards 1, 2 and 3 of the Ipswich Special Hospital, daily signed by the Charge Nurse (1st shift), the Deputy Charge Nurse (2nd shift) and the Night Nurse (night shift).

The reports include daily statistics for each ward on the following: number of patients, fits, wet and dirty, soiled clothes, spoon-fed, dressed in strong clothing, bathings, under medical treatment, employment (assisting in wards, domestic offices, kitchen, laundry, and numerous trades such as tailor, engineer, baker, matress making, blacksmith, painting, carpenter, wood cutting, stockyards, etc.), unemployed, entertainment (such as recreation and sports grounds, religious services and extended walks).

The next section contains general information: number of patients on leave, total number of patients on books, deaths (name, hour, ward, in the presence of), transferred, discharged, leaves of absence.

The last section is a Special Report: fits, feeding, destructive patients, special observations, homicidal or suicidal attempts, seclusions, restraints, escapes, restlessness, special medical treatments, patients confined to bed in specific wards, inspections of cleanliness of patients and of wards, isolation ward, report concerning buildings.

Sometimes there are lists of patients that were returned soldiers and a list of epileptic patients at the back of the front cover.
