How To Use Series Assessment numbers change every time a property is re-assessed so several assessment numbers can be attached to the same property or individual. There is an index (SRS5769) which mainly covers the period up to 1964, some later entries may also be found. After 1967 it is necessary to know either the assessment number for a particular range of years or the Valuer General's number in order to locate the card.

Description

This series consists of rate assessment cards which were used by the Albert Shire Council to record: parish and county names (in later years suburb names); property address; valuation registration number; assessment number; description of property including area size, lot number, plan number and port; certificate of title reference; unimproved condition value; rate amount including water, cleansing and sewerage; reference number in old book; name and address of owner; property requisitions - zoning; sales - date and price; and clerk's initials.

The format and the size of cards for the period 1956 - 1967 differs from that of the years 1967 - 1979 and again from 1981-1990, but basically the same data is recorded. Some of the cards are bound into volumes.

Note:
Item number 10 (1956-1960) includes index cards which contain lists of churches, vacant crown land, reserves for various purposes and some portions with no further description. The entries are listed by parish and details include rate assessment number, portion, section or subsection number, reserve number and type of reserve.
