This series provides a record of the boys who served time in the industrial and reformatory school, consisting of: the Reformatory School for Boys - hulk 'Proserpine', the Reformatory School for Boys Lytton, Diamantina Reformatory for Boys and Westbrook Reformatory for Boys. In most instances, neglected and convicted boys under the age of 18 were admitted for a certain period of time, after which they were released. In some cases, boys were transferred to an orphanage before their sentence had expired. Information recorded upon their discharge from the school include; number, date of discharge, name, age, height, weight and circumference of chest of each boy, by what authority discharged, in case of death, cause of death and initials of medical officer, conduct whilst on board (NB: the reformatory was originally the former prison hulk for men, "Proserpine"), and any further remarks.
Note: Some of the boys transferred from the reformatory later appear in the official records of the Brisbane orphanage for boys. The date and circumstances of each boy's admission to the Reformatory is recorded in SRS986 Admission Register.
