These books record minor criminal and civil matters heard by the Mount Isa Court of Petty Sessions and Magistrates Court. Criminal matters dealt with include unlawful assault, public disturbance, obscene language and being unlawfully on licensed premises.

The volumes contain details of summons number, date and fee paid, name of complainant and defendant, offence, breach of duty, or cause of action, plea (if any), and adjudication and signature of magistrate.

The volumes also contain records of matters before a number of courts including the coroners court, magistrates court, childrens' court, licensing court, industrial magistrates court, warden's court, fair rents court, bankruptcy court and rates valuation appeal court. Matters dealt with before these courts include inquests into cause and circumstances of deaths, fires and property damage, minor criminal offences, administering oaths of allegiance to Justices of the Peace, child custody and maintenance orders, issuing of licences for cattle slaughtering, auctioneers, real estate agents and motor vehicle dealers, claims for wages and applications for forfeiture of mineral leases.

Volumes 6 and 7 also contain appeals to the Local Manpower Appeal Board against decisions of the National Service Officer, Mount Isa regarding refusal of permission to terminate employment with Mount Isa Mines Ltd. Volumes 12, 13 and 14 also contain records of hearings into breaches of the National Service Acts 1951-1953.
