Description

These transcripts were created by the State Reporting Bureau and the Court Reporting Bureau as official records of the court proceedings for the following courts: Supreme Court; Supreme Court - Full Court, Supreme Court - Court of Criminal Appeal; and District Court. The State Reporting Bureau came into existence on 1 July 1926. The records in this series before this date, are transcripts recorded by casual reporters working for individual courts.

Also included are transcripts of proceedings heard before Royal Commissions; Commissions of Inquiry; the Industrial Court; the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Commission; Land Appeal Court; and various other boards and tribunals. The transcripts are classified as either: Civil; Criminal; Industrial; or Miscellaneous. The four different types of transcripts refer to the Jurisdiction of the Court in which the proceedings occurred: Civil = Civil Jurisdiction; Criminal = Criminal Jurisdiction; Industrial = Industrial Court, Industrial Conciliation, and Arbitration Commission etc; Miscellaneous = Royal Commissions, Land Appeal Court, and various other boards and tribunals. From 1926 to approximately 1944, the transcripts are housed in colour coded file covers according to these four types of cases (Civil = Blue; Criminal = Pink; Industrial = Orange; Miscellaneous = Yellow). Between 1944 and 1956, the transcripts are filed only by the Date of Hearing. From 1956 onwards, all transcripts are arranged according to the four Types of Cases
