This series consists of registers of the Governor's official correspondence, arranged over time in different formats and with varying entry details. The registers, 1886 - 1887, are divided into letters received and letters sent, but to 1904, while the entries for date, correspondence and subject remain the same, only letters received are registered. From 1905 - 1966, registers are divided under subject headings reflecting the status, role and functions performed by the Governor: Chief Secretary, Commonwealth and State government departments, Consuls, Defence, Governor - General, Governors, Justice, Parliament, Police Commissioner, and Secretary of State. Under these headings, details are entered of each item of correspondence received, and from 1943 correspondence sent.
From 1967, cards arranged chronologically then alphabetically, with a wider range of subject headings, replace the registers. After each tab for the alphabetical letter, there is an index to subject headings and subject file numbers; details of correspondence such as progressive, previous and subsequent numbers, date, writer and subject are then entered under the alphabetically-arranged subject headings.

Subjects include Honours and Investitures, Petitions and Pardons, Staff Personal Files, Titles of Royal and Honourable, Absences of the Governor and Government House.
