Description

The "Commission of Inquiry into the care and treatment of patients in the psychiatric unit of the Townsville General Hospital" was to investigate whether between 1975 to 1988 any patient in the Psychiatric Unit (Ward 10B) was cared for or treated in a manner which was negligent, unsafe, unethical or unlawfull, and if so, to establish whether there was sufficient evidence to prosecute or take disciplinary proceedings.

The correspondence files relate to contact being made with the Commission by individuals (i.e. doctors, nurses, patients, relatives, etc) or organisations (i.e. boards, hospitals, solicitors, police, etc), during the length of the Inquiry. Some relevant administrative correspondence is also included, as well as three "consent" records, involving legal documents used to obtain information from private doctors.
