This series comprises appeal files of criminal cases heard in the District Court, Stanthorpe.

In appeal hearings, the reasons for the appeal and any supporting documentation is presented by the appellant (the person or organisation) that commenced the appeal. The appellant presents their case followed by the respondent, the opposing person or organisation. A judge listens to the argument, reads the documentation and decides if an error was made or an important fact overlooked in the original hearing. The judge makes an order giving reasons for the decision. The case is dismissed if there was no error or a retrial or resentence may be ordered; the order replaced or the sentence increased/decreased as applicable.

The series also includes appeals filed under Section 222 of the Justices Act heard in the District Court, Brisbane. Under Section 222, a complainant or defendant can appeal an order made by another justice, usually in the Magistrates court. The appeal is to a single judge in the District Court and is required to be lodged one month from the date of the order.

Documents may include: notices of appeal; entries of appeal; judgments; affidavits; exhibits and general correspondence, court transcripts, and police records. The files may deal with issues such as domestic violence, harassment, traffic offences and dangerous driving charges.
