Description

This series consists of files relating to criminal cases heard in the District Court, Stanthorpe and prior to1959 in the Circuit Court, Stanthorpe.

The District Court deals with serious crimes, including armed robbery, rape and dangerous driving. All criminal cases must first be brought to the Magistrates Court. Serious criminal offences are committed to the District Court for trial or sentencing. A jury is involved in criminal trials in this court.

Documents in the files may include indictments, depositions, transcripts of proceedings, exhibits, witness statements, criminal histories, bail applications, correspondence from solicitors and associated papers.
