Description

This series contains architectural drawings for the Barcaldine Shire Hall, constructed in 1911-12. The plans are signed by architect Alfred Mowbray Hutton and show designs for various elevations of the building in addition to detailed floor plans.

The hall was the principal public building in the town of Barcaldine and functioned as the shire's administrative and social centre, housing the offices of council officials and hosting a wide variety of public events.

As a result of its significance as a rare surviving example of a late nineteenth/early twentieth century timber shire hall, the Barcaldine Shire Hall was listed on the Queensland Heritage Register in 2003. The hall is also recognised as having significance in demonstrating the growth and development of Barcaldine and for its prominent role in the Barcaldine community since its construction.
