This series consists of registers of patient admissions to Sarina General Hospital.
The registers are divided into columns for admissions, discharges and a summary for each day. The exact contents of each column vary over time, but broadly include the following:
•The admission number, name and discharge number of each patient in the admission column
•The discharge number, name, result, date of admission, date of discharge, number of days in hospital is recorded in the discharge column. Discharges are tallied every day according to various standards (initially according to legislative requirements of the "Hospitals Benefits Act 1945" (Cth) and "Tuberculosis Act 1948" (Cth); then from about 1970 tallies were kept separately for males and females)
•A daily tally of total admissions, total discharges, total remaining at end of day, total number of one-day patients and total number of paying patients in the summary column.
Tallies are often added at the bottom of each page, and monthly, quarterly and yearly totals are usually recorded.
