The Brigalow Land Development Scheme was first introduced in 1959 and was designed to encourage the development of the Brigalow area, and to encourage the development of the beef cattle and other primary industries in Queensland.
This series appears to have been specially collated, possibly on behalf of the Lands Department (see entries in QS170). Included in this series are images of land sales in Theodore, Rockhampton and Taroom, selection dwellings and land development (including clearing, burning, spraying, fencing, seeding and irrigation), pasture, wheat and livestock, the drought of 1965 and farming stations.
Such images, produced by the Photographic Section of the Survey Office, were used by Government departments for record, educational, promotional and exhibition purposes. Most of the black and white images in this series have been captioned and dated. Some of the images have been reproduced in QS86 Photograph albums (C2 series) - land development.
