Although the cards are mainly school record cards, there are also some Research and Guidance Branch, Juvenile Employment Bureau, and Department of Labour and Employment, Guidance Branch cards.
There appear to be three sequences of cards, each sequence being divided into male and female. The third sequence refers to children from New Guinea and New Britain and other overseas countries boarding at non-state schools.
The cards accessioned here represent a ten per cent sample preserved.
The front of the school record card makes provision for the following information to be recorded: name, address and birth date of student, parent's name and occupation/s, schools attended by student, dates of enrolments and leaving, physical data including serious illnesses and position in family, parent's plans for further education of student, scholastic attainments record, test results, hobbies and special interests, pupil interview, parent interview, guidance summary, personal characteristics according to industry, initiative, sociability and reliability. The back of the card records information concerning the secondary education of the student, basically set out the same as the card face except for the deletion of physical data and parent's plans, and the addition of "comment on school record".
