A land order was legal tender for selecting and purchasing land at auction, available under various Queensland Land Acts in the nineteenth century.
This series consists of registers of the reception of redeemed land orders kept by the Treasury Department between 1861 and 1907. Each register contains several land order series, i.e. first land orders; second land orders; series A, B or C; land selection series; cotton premiums; land certificates, etc. The information given for each registration varies slightly over time and includes: title of the land order series (top of page), land order number, name of applicant, residence, date, amount, date of reception at Treasury, received from, balance, date of cancellation, and remarks. Most volumes have an index to the series at the front.
From 1865 onwards (volume TRE/N7), most of the orders received were recorded chronologically as received, no longer classified by land order type ("Unclassified"), although the land order type is noted in a separate column.
-Volume TRE/N1 has no index (unpaged).
-Volume TRE/N10 includes a short list of Land Order Certificates on p. 180.
-Volume TRE/N11 includes a Summary of Issues and Cancellations on first and last pages, and a loose list of Time Expired Land Orders Nos. 1-1531, undated.
-Volumes in this series have variously been titled: "Land Order Register", "Land Orders Received", "Redeemed Land Orders", "Register of Land Orders".
