This series comprises two registers of prisoners sentenced to death between 1865 and 1922, entitled "Record of Death Sentences, Brisbane", kept by the Prisons Department.
Each entry in the registers includes the following details: number (1880-1922 register only, non-sequential), name of prisoner, offence (either murder or rape), sentenced by (Justice's name and town), how disposed (including: "executed", underlined in red), "commuted to" hard labour, prison sentence for life, reduced sentence,or a specific numbers of years, free pardon, etc.; and date sentence carried out. No executions are recorded after 22 September 1913.
Inside the front cover of the 1865 - 1879 register there is a loose page listing names and dates 9 Jun 1879 - 13 Jun 1910. Pasted inside the front cover of the 1880 - 1922 register there is a typed list including names, offences and dates under the heading: Last Twelve Persons Executed at Brisbane.
