How To Use Series The Registers of Letters Received of the Colonial / Home Secretary and the Chief Secretary and Premier's Department (COL/B, HOM/B, PRE/B) can provide access to this series. Letters were registered under the heading Commissions of the Peace, and entries for letters to be filed were marked JP Papers. The numbers allocated to the JPs were added in red ink to some entries in the PRE/Bs. These numbers were also entered in the alphabetical indexes (Series ID9235).

This series contains correspondence batches respecting appointments of Justices of Peace. Correspondence files are arranged in quarterly bundles (March, June, September, December) and contain letters of recommendation/nomination for appointment as Justices of the Peace. Some files contain nominations requiring further investigation / consideration and police reports. Some files also contain certificates of oaths administered and gazettal notices if appropriate as well as change of address advices. Further nominations/appointments as Justices of the Peace between 1950-1960 can be found in PRV11161 in numerical/chronological arrangement.
