Description

The Farm Learners scheme was originally intended to encourage young men to migrate to Queensland. From the 1930s the scheme was expanded to include "local lads" who wanted to learn farming. The scheme was administered by the Immigration Department and this series consists of files of those boys who were placed in employment under a Lad's Agreement which sets out the conditions of employment, and was signed by the empyer and the lad. The files also include letters of application by employers for lads and requests for employment by lads, arrangements for travel etc. as well as correspondence and statements of accounts regarding wages paid.
