Description

This register contains a record of the names of all ranks from Queensland who served in the South African War, also known as the Boer War. The register was to record: regimental number, rank and name (surname and initial(s)), company, marital status, period of service, details if taken prisoner, casualties, discharge, medals, address, and other remarks.

Note only the first entry, Adie, A.G. p. 1 includes most of these details. The majority of entries include only: regimental number, surname and initial(s).
A very few entries have details of date and place taken prisoner and date released.
An annotation such as, (From 4th Contingent), does occur under a name in some instances.
Up to page 16, entries have an address, with street name, though for most it is only suburb/town, Queensland.

Pasted in, at the front of each volume of the register, is Index to Home Secretary's Office Record of the names of all ranks who served in the South African War 1 Nov. 1899 - ca1901.
