Description

These volumes of duplicate despatches from the Secretary of State for the Colonies to the Governor include correspondence on defence matters including use of military troops for police purposes, the supply of arms to colonial militia and volunteers, the establishment of a station at Cape York, and naval allowances. Other matters include the removal of a judge and the independence of the judiciary, establishment of banks for carrying on colonial business, Board of Trade instructions, South Sea Island labourers, customs, Chinese and Japanese immigration, leprosy, prison discipline, and the appointment of consuls.

These duplicates do not include the enclosures which accompany the original despatches (RSI 3382)
