Description

Pay ledger for the South African Contingent who went to the Boer War. Details for Queensland Defence Force men include: Regimental number, surname and initials, rank, date columns, location and columns relating to bills, cash payments, pay due and balance. A few entries are annotated with a comment, such as: Discharged and date; Embarked and date; Punishment and fined; Appointed, rank and date; Transfer to location and date; Died and date.

At the back of the ledger are nine loose sheets:
1) N.C.O's & Men Embarked for Australia showing their balances and date of embarkation (3 pages)
- Includes Regimental number, Rank, Name (surname and initial(s)), Debit balance, Credit balance, Date of Embarkation
2) N.C.O's & Men transferred to Australian Depot, Capetown (2 pages)
- Includes Regimental number, Rank, Name (surname and initial(s)), Debit balance, Credit balance, Date of Transfer
3) List of N.C.O's & Men discharged in S/A [South Africa] showing date of discharge & balance (2 pages)
- Includes Regimental number, Rank, Name (surname and initial(s)), Debit balance, Credit balance, Date of Discharge
4) Casuals (1 page)
