Information Sources

These volumes were created by the Trigonometrical Survey Office and the Survey Office to record latitude computations. It was necessary to calculate the latitude and longitude positions of each trigonometrical station, commencing with the known co-ordinates of another station. Entries include: place of latitude, observer, instrument, date and star computation. A table of contents is located in the front of the volumes, and related papers are found throughout the series. Volumes 1 and 2 contain some observations from Thursday Island and from Volume 4 the page layout has been printed. In 1927, the Survey Office recommenced this work - Consequently, Volume 5 also contains entries from this period.
