Description
Bunkers Hill State School No. 853 (situated within the area then known as the Westbrook Estate near Toowoomba) opened on 1 Janurary 1899. The first Head Teacher was Walter Richmond.

The first enquiry concerning the establishment of a school at Westbrook Crossing, via Toowoomba was made by Hugh Campbell on 19 December 1896. A Public Meeting was held on 9 Janurary 1897 and a Building Committee was elected. Approval for the building of a school was published in the Government Gazette on 16 July 1898. The total number of students when the school first opened was 66 girls and boys.
