Description
ESTABLISHMENT:
The Environment and Heritage Department was re-established on 29 June 1998 with the re-naming of the Department of Environment.

FUNCTIONS:
The Environment and Heritage Department was responsible for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural land interests, contaminated land, cultural heritage, sustainable development, environment management, marine parks, nature conservation, wet tropics, pollution, waste, etc.

ABOLITION:
The Department of Environment and Heritage was renamed the Environmental Protection Agency on 11 December 1998 . The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service was also established as part of the EPA.
