Description
ESTABLISHMENT:
Under Public Service Departmental Arrangements (no 3) 1998, the Department of Economic Development and Trade was renamed the Department of State Development on 29 June 1998.

The Office of Business and Industry (which was part of the Department of Tourism, Sport and Racing), the Development Projects Branch, Commercial Policy and Projects Division (which was part of the Treasury Department), the Office of the Coordinator-General (which was part of the Department of the Premier and Cabinet) and the Queensland Science and Technology Council (which was part of the Department of the Premier and Cabinet) were amalgamated with the Department of State Development.

FUNCTIONS:
Under Administrative Arrangements Order (no 1) 1998, functions include:
Business
Economic Development Planning
Industry Development
Investment Opportunities and Attraction
Major Development Project Facilitation
Regional Development
State Development
Trade Development

ADMINISTATIVE STRUCTURE:
The Chief Executive of the department is a Director-General.

ABOLITION:
On 12 February 2004, under Administrative Arrangements Order (No. 1) 2004 and the Public Service Departmental Arrangements Notice (No.1) 2004, the Department of State Development was renamed the Department of State Development and Innovation and amalgamated with parts of the former Department of Innovation and Information Economy, Sport and Recreation Queensland.
