Weipa Mission was established in June 1898 under the guardianship of Rev & Mrs E Brown. The school was established at the same time.

In 1900 Miss Schick, sister of Mrs Brown, was appointed Head Teacher of the School. In 1932 the Mission and School moved to Jessica Point. J.S.Winn was the Superintendent of Weipa Mission form 1939-1963. His daughter, Miss Margaret Winn, was the first paid departmental teacher at Weipa Mission. Previous to Miss Winn's appointment the teachers were appointed by the Mission Board.

Weipa Mission School became Weipa South State School in 1966 after the Presbyterian Board of Missions requested that the Queensland Government assume responsibility for the civil administration of Weipa Mission from 1 February 1967.

From 31 July 1967 Weipa South State School was transferred from the Aboriginal Affairs Department to the Education Department.

In 1976 Weipa South State School became known as Jessica Point State School.

On 1 January 2002 Jessica Point became a campus of the Western Cape College.

The Napranum Campus closed on 31/12/2005, and the students transferred to the Weipa Campus of the College.
