Description
The Joint Committee was constituted under the "Sewerage and Water Supply Act 1949", and the first meeting of the Committee was held on 4 Jan 1957. The five-member Committee, formally known as the "Joint Committee", consisted of the Engineer for Water Supply and Sewerage and the maintenance Engineer for Sewerage, Brisbane City Council, the Engineer in Charge, and one other officer, of the Town Water Suppy and Sewerage Section of the Department of Local Government, nominated by the Director of Local Government, and one other Member, nominated by the Director General of Health and Medical Services.

The role of the Committee was to ensure that products and fittings used in public drainage systems were conducive to the maintenance of acceptable standards of health and safety.

ABOLITION:
With the adoption of the national product authorisation scheme, the Joint Committee ceased to operate on 30 April 1998.
