Description
Requests for a Provisional School at Dungeness on the Herbert River to service government employees working in customs, harbours and rivers, and telegraph departments had been made as early as 1894. The Provisional School at Dungeness [No 743] was established in 1896, but due to the site being prone to flooding, a temporary school was held 1 mile south at Lucinda on days when the weather prevented students from attending.

In 1897 the school was to be removed from Dungeness and relocated to Lucinda Point. The first head teacher at Dungeness was Katie Walsh. From 1898 onwards the school was known as Lucinda Point Provisional School which became Lucinda Point State School in January 1909. Lucinda Point celebrated its centenary in 1996.

The school was closed 31 December 2008.
