The title of the Chief Secretary was officially changed to the Premier and Chief Secretary on 24 April 1919.

ADMINISTRATIVE STRUCTURE:
The Premier and Chief Secretary's Department originally comprised an executive of an Under Secretary and Commissioner of Prices, and Auditor-General and the Public Service Commissioner.

ABOLITION:
Following a change of State Government in June 1963, the Premier and Chief Secretary's Department became known as the Premier's Department.
