Description
The State Butchers Department was established with the appointment of a Supervisor in 1915 to administer state retail butcher shops, the first of which opened in Roma Street, Brisbane on 12 November 1915. The department continued in its role until approximatley 1920 although under the "State Enterprises Act of 1918" the State Trade Office (also known as the State Enterprises Department) headed by a Commissioner of Trade took over responsibility for all state enterprises on 1 January 1919.

The Chief Secretary's Department had overall responsibility for the State Butchers Department, and other state enterprises.

The exact start and end dates of this department have not been established.
