On 30 December 1859, following separation of Queensland from New South Wales, a Curator of Intestate Estates was appointed.

Solicitor General, 12 Aug 1890 - 21 Feb 1891

From 1 January 1885 the positions of Curator in Insanity and Curator of Intestate Estates were held by the same person but the offices were administered by the Colonial Secretary's Office and the Supreme Court or Justice Department respectively. From 21 February 1891 the offices were combined to form the Curator in Intestacy and Insanity Office within the Justice Department.

The Intestacy Register 28 May 1857 - 22 Oct 1880 (A/51786) in the custody of Queensland State Archives contains entries copied from indexes 1857 - 1868 kept by William Pickering who was appointed Official Assignee 1 October 1857 replacing the former Registrar of the Supreme Court. Records of intestate estates may have been kept by the Registrar following the establishment of of the Supreme Court in Moreton Bay from 1 April 1857.
