Description
Burketown Hospital was established on 20 April 1899 to provide hospital and medical care. The hospital was administered by a Committee unitl 1945 when it became the responsibility of the Normanton Hospitals Board. Under the "Health Services Act 1991" responsibility passed to the Northern Regional Health Authority but from 1996 Authorities were dissolved and Health Service Districts with managers and District Councils to monitor services were created. In 2007 the Burketown Health Centre became part of the Mount Isa Health Service District. The health centre hospital provides outpatient, emergency and other services.
