Description
ESTABLISHMENT:
The Chiropodists Board of Queensland was established by the "Chiropodists Act 1969" and was constituted on 2 April 1970. Under the "Chiropodists Amendment Act 1987" the name of the Board was changed to the Podiatrists Board of Queensland.

FUNCTIONS:
The function of each Health Professional Registration Board is to administer its enabling legislation, to determine professional standards, to maintain the register of practitioners in applicable discipline and to regulate and control the practice of the particular profession in Queensland. Each Board may indicate proceedings against a practitioner for misconduct in a professional respect.

The Podiatrists Board of Queensland is responsible for the registration and continuing education of qualified podiatrists in Queensland, and regulates and controls the practice of podiatry.

PORTFOLIO CONTROLLING:
Minister for Health 2 Apr 1970 -

ABOLITION:
From 1 July 2010 the Podiatrists Board of Queensland was abolished and a new national agency, the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency, responsible for administration of registration of health professionals was introduced under the "Health Practitioner Regulation (Administrative Arrangements) National Law Act 2008", the "Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act 2009" and the "Health Legislation (Health Practitioner Regulation National Law) Amendment Act 2010". The National Agency took over the administrative functions of the Board while the Podiatry Board of Australia took over the registration and accreditation of podiatrists.

A transition period followed the implementation of the new arrangements.
