The Education Act 1964 established new schools within the State school system at this time. A Secondary Department was attached to Moura State School in 1965. Moves to establish a separate high school began as early as 1970. However, it was not until 1975 that the number of prospective students was adequate to plan the establishment of a separate high school. A separate high school was established on 27 January 1976. The first principal was Mr B D Jurtz. The enrolment by 1976 was 263 students.
