On 1 April 1857, under the "Moreton Bay Supreme Court Act 1857", the Supreme Court at Moreton Bay was established. The Act also included the appointment of an Official Assignee of Insolvent Estates, but no reference to an appointment to this position has been located. However, on 1 October 1857, William Pickering was appointed Official Assignee replacing the former Registrar.

Administration of insolvent estates

In 1857, the Official Assignee was appointed by the New South Wales Governor and Executive, and the "First" Official Assignee following separation of Queensland from New South Wales was appointed on 16 March 1868. The Official Assignee was an officer of the Insolvency Court.

On 1 October 1874, under "The Insolvency Act of 1874", the position of Official Assignee was replaced by that of Official Trustee in Insolvency.
