Description
ESTABLISHMENT:
The Royal Commission was announced and gazetted by the Premier of Queensland on 12 November 1963 in response to allegations made against members of the Queensland Police Force in relation to the policing of the National Hotel, in particular the running of a prostitution service from the hotel. Justice HT Gibbs was appointed Inquiry commissioner, and DF Jackson served as Secretary.

FUNCTIONS:
The Royal Commission was empowered to inquire into -
i. alleged misconduct and neglect of duty by any member of the Police Force in relation to the policing of the licensed premises, National Hotel, Petrie Bight, Brisbane
ii. whether a 'call girl' service operated in the Hotel and, if so, whether it was encouraged, condoned or sanctioned by any member of the Police Force
iii. if any Police officer has been guilty, who, and in what repect
iv. related matters pertaining to the Inquiry in the public interest

CONDUCT OF THE INQUIRY:
The Report of the Royal Commission was handed down 10 April 1964, tabled in Parliament on 19 August 1964, and ordered to be printed.
