Description
ESTABLISHMENT:
On 13 Sep 2006, under Public Service Departmental Arrangements Notice (No. 9) 2006, the Department of Employment and Training was abolished, and under Administrative Arrangements Order (No. 8) 2006, the Department of Industrial Relations was renamed the Department of Employment and Industrial Relations to take effect retrospectively to 13 Sep 2006.

FUNCTIONS:
Under Administrative Arrangements Order (No. 2) 2006, Departmental responsibilities were:
Electrical safety
Employment initiatives
Employment policies and programs
Industrial Relations
Public Service Employment Security, remuneration and conditions of employment
Workers' Compensation
Workplace Health and Safety

ABOLITION:
On 26 March 2009, under Administrative Arrangements Order (No. 1) 2009 and Public Service Departmental Arrangements Notice (No. 2) 2009, the Department of Employment and Industrial Relations was abolished and its functions transferred to the Department of Justice and Attorney-General, excluding that part responsible for employment and Indigeneous initiatives undertaken by the new Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation.
