Description
ESTABLISHMENT:
The Coordinator-General was re-established as a separate public service office on 28 July 2005 and was renamed the Department of Infrastructure on 15 December 2006. On 13 September 2007, under the Administrative Arrangements Order (No. 2) 2007 and the Public Service Departmental Arrangements Notice (No. 4) 2007, the Department was renamed the Department of Infrastructure and Planning.

FUNCTIONS:
Major development project delivery and infrastructure planning and coordination; coordinating urban, regional and industrial growth; South East Queensland water grid.

ADMINISTRATIVE ARRANGEMENTS:
The responsible head of the Department is a Director-General. From 13 September 2007 the Sustainable Planning Division, formerly part of the Department of Local Government, Planning, Sport and Recreation, was amalgamated with the Department. From 26 March 2009 the Department expanded to take on the added responsibility of local government.

ABOLITION:
Under Administrative Arrangements Order (No. 1) 2011 and Public Service Departmental Arrangements Notice (No. 1) 2011, the Department of Infrastructure and Planning was renamed the Department of Local Government and Planning, and the functions and duties of the Coordinator-General were transferred to the Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation.
