Description
ESTABLISHMENT:
On 12 February 2004, under Administrative Arrangements Order (No. 1) 2004 and the Public Service Departmental Arrangements Notice (No.1) 2004, the Department of State Development was renamed the Department of State Development and Innovation and amalgamated with parts of the former Department of Innovation and Information Economy, Sport and Recreation Queensland.

Under Administrative Arrangements 28 July 2005 and the the Public Service Departmental Arrangments Notice (No.4) 2005, the Department of State Development and Innovation was renamed the Department of State Development, Trade and Innovation.

FUNCTIONS:
The department is the State's lead agency in economic development and its responsibilites include:
Business development, advice and support including export and trade
Communication and Information Industry development
Economic development planning
Industry Development
Regional development
Support for innovative enterprises
Investment opportunities and attraction
Major development project facilitation
Research and Development coordination
State development
Administration of Crown Copyright and Intellectual Property
Trade Development - from 28 July 2005

ADMINISTRATIVE STRUCTURE:
The Chief Executive of the department is a Director-General;

ABOLITION:
On 13 Sep 2006, under Administrative Arrangements Order (No. 2) 2006 and Public Service Departmental Arrangements Notice (No. 9) 2006, the Department of State Development, Trade and Innovation was renamed the Department of State Development, Trade and Employment.
