A Unique History: Australian South Sea Islanders in Queensland
|
| Australian South Sea Islanders are a distinct cultural group who are the descendents of predominantly Melanesian people brought to Queensland between 1863 and 1904 from the Pacific Islands. This Queensland State Archives display features records relating to the recruitment, indenture, deportation and repatriation of South Sea Islanders (late 1800s, early 1900s) and highlights examples of more recent records including enrolment and school records. |

At Home in New Holland: the Dutch in Queensland

| The connection between Queensland and the Netherlands started with the landing on Cape York of the Dutch vessel Duyfken in 1606. Since free settlement commenced in 1842 many Dutch people have made Queensland their home. Did you know that the state soccer team, Queensland Roar, are the latest incarnation of the Hollandia team? This exhibition contains photographs, immigration records, examples of land records as well as numerous other items pertaining to the Dutch presence in Queensland. |

Australian Comforts Fund
|
| During World War II, the Patriotic Fund of Queensland and the Australia Comforts Fund entered into a cooperative agreement to provide assistance to Queensland troops. The Australian Comforts Fund also worked with other organisations, such as the Salvation Army, for the benefit of troops. This exhibition highlights some of the publicity photographs created between 1942 and 1945 which document the services provided to Australian troops by the Australian Comforts Fund and its partners. |

Brisbane City
|
| European settlement was first established in the Brisbane region with the Moreton Bay penal settlement in the 1820s. By 1842, the penal settlement at Moreton Bay was closed and free settlement in the region was encouraged. Following the separation of Queensland and New South Wales in 1859, Brisbane was declared a municipality and became the capital of Queensland. This exhibition highlights some of the changes over time to the streets and buildings of Brisbane City. |

Brisbane's World Fair: Expo 88
|
| This exhibition showcases Expo 88 images from Queensland State Archives' collection to celebrate the 25th anniversary of this historic event. The 1988 World Exposition (Expo 88) was held in Brisbane between 30 April and 30 October 1988. Expo 88 was part of the Bicentennial celebrations of the European settlement of Australia. The theme of the Expo was ‘Leisure in the Age of Technology’. Expo Oz, a platypus, was the principal mascot of Expo 88. More than 15 million visitors attended Expo 88. |

Celebrate International Women's Day

| International Women's Day was first observed in 1911 with a focus on contemporary women's issues such as the right to vote, work and be educated. Since 1913, International Women's Day has been annually observed on 8 March. International Women's Day has become a day of recognition of women and their achievements throughout many countries and celebrates the local, national and global milestones achieved by women and for women in the last two centuries. |

Celebrating 150 years of Warwick

| Warwick, located on the Condamine River, was declared a municipality in 1861 and was the first free settlement in Queensland after Brisbane. May 25 2011 is the 150th anniversary of the proclamation of the municipality of Warwick. This exhibition includes images, architectural drawings and other records from Queensland State Archives' collection which document the history of Warwick. |
